National Bank Moncton Open & Masters

 

Alex Lavoie of Moncton made a bang on his return to competitive tennis this past weekend winning both the men’s open singles and doubles titles at the National Bank Moncton Open & Masters held in Centennial Park.  Lavoie, took out both the #1 and #2 seeds along the way defeating Alexandre Drouin of Moncton, seeded second, in the semifinals by scores of 6/3, 6/1 and then followed that up by beating top seed Martin Gallant of Memramcook in the finals by scores of 6/3, 6/2.  He then partnered with Mark White of Sackville to claim the men’s doubles title defeating the top seeded team of Drouin and Mehdi Ben Ammar of Moncton in the finals winning 6/4, 7/6.  Jeremy Gallant of Shediac won the singles consolation by defeating Jason Gaudet of Memramcook 8/5.  Gaudet did win the men’s 4.0 singles title however, defeating John Balloch of Riverview by scores of 3/6, 6/3, 10/8.  In men’s 40+ singles, Mehdi Ben Ammar of Moncton defeated Robert Hebert of Saint John 6/1, 6/3, in men’s 55+ singles, Bill Johnson of Sussex defeated Roger Bertin of Campbellton 6/3, 6/4, and in men’s 60+ singles, Wayne Veysey of Moncton defeated Camille Vautour of Moncton 2/6, 6/1, 10/8.  And in men’s 55+ doubles, Francis Cormier of Memramcook and Camille Vautour of Moncton defeated Roch Gallant and Roger Bertin of Campbellton by scores of 6/4, 4/6, 15/13.
