As I am sure you are all aware, the provincial government has set out our Path Toward Green and the criteria needed to get to each Phase. The first phase will come into effect on June 7 as long as at least 75 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers have received their first dose of a vaccine; hospitalizations remain low; and all health zones remain at the Yellow level. AND THIS IS THE PHASE WE NEED TO REACH IN ORDER TO BE ALLOWED TO RUN PROVINCIAL TENNIS TOURNAMENTS. Well as of today, hospitalizations are remaining low and all health zones remain at the yellow level. However, we are currently only at a 64.5 percent vaccination rate which means we still have a ways to go to get to 75%.
So, note the following as it relates to our first scheduled tournament of the outdoor season:
If we reach phase one by June 7, the Saint John Open/Masters will take place in Shamrock Park on Saturday, June 12 & Sunday, June 13 as scheduled. Online registration will open on Tuesday, June 8 and players will have until the end of the day on Wednesday, June 9 to register.
If we don’t reach phase one by June 7, the Saint John Open/Masters will be postponed and will be re-scheduled to the following weekend, Saturday, June 19 & Sunday, June 20 assuming we reach the 75% level of vaccination sometime between June 8 and June 14. Online registration would open as soon as we have the announcement.
If we don’t reach phase one by June 14, the Saint John Open/Masters will be cancelled. And then fingers crossed for the East Coast Open.
